Machinist, Graphitizing Department, Workshop No. 5
How long have you been working at UKRGRAFIT?
I come from a family of factory workers. My father worked in Furnaces at Shop No. 3 for 30 years! My mother also worked in the warehouses. I joined UKRGRAFIT in 1999. Initially, I worked as a security guard for about three years, but then I decided to try my hand at machine operation in the Graphite Department of Shop No. 5. I have always been fond of working with machines since my school days. I started as an Apprentice Machinist and quickly honed my skills. Within three months, I achieved the 4th category, and within a year, the 5th. The progress continued, and I eventually reached the 6th category.
What do you enjoy about your work?
I relish the opportunity to contribute to the development of new products and to write software for their production on CNC programming machines. I love that my work involves continuous learning and problem-solving. There is always forward momentum, so I constantly strive to acquire new knowledge.
Could you share any interesting projects you’ve worked on?
I have been involved in the implementation of various types of equipment in Shop No. 5. One particularly fascinating project was the introduction of a new product called mono-electrodes. Working closely with the lead process engineer, we developed technical processes and wrote software for the VIPER machine. I also have vivid memories of the commissioning of the RZ02 line. I participated in every stage, from equipment installation to the production of the first parts.
What advice do you have for young professionals?
Absolutely! Almost every new employee who joins our department becomes my student. It’s hard to say how many people I have trained, as there have been quite a lot. Many of them have now become mentors or experts in their own right. When I observe sincere enthusiasm and a desire to learn and comprehend, I offer them the utmost support.
How do you spend your free time outside the plant?
I am a family man. Interestingly, I met my wife at UKRGRAFIT as well — she works as a crane operator in our workshop. We have a 10-year-old son. My favourite hobby is playing the guitar, which aligns with my musical education. When I return home, I connect my electric guitar to the computer and immerse myself in music. I particularly enjoy playing songs by Gary Moore and Joe Satriani. During the summer, I also engage in outdoor activities, such as tending to our summer residence and going on nature trips. Whenever possible, I indulge in fishing from a boat.
